According to allcitycodes, the Maldives is a tropical country located in the Indian Ocean. It has a warm and humid climate all year round with two main seasons, the dry season and the wet season. The dry season lasts from December to April when temperatures can reach up to 30°C (86°F). This is accompanied by little rain, however there are occasional thunderstorms. The wet season occurs between May and November when temperatures drop to around 25°C (77°F) and heavy rains occur particularly in the northern regions of the Maldives. Due to its location in the equatorial region, the Maldives experiences high levels of humidity throughout the year which can make it uncomfortable for some people. In addition, cyclones occur every year between December and April and can cause extensive damage to crops and infrastructure. In some areas, these storms can be severe enough to cause flooding and landslides. The Maldives also experience strong winds during its monsoon season from June to August which can sometimes cause rough seas making it dangerous for boats to travel. The coral reefs around the islands are also affected by strong winds which can stir up sediment from the sea floor causing coral bleaching and damaging or killing off large areas of coral reef.
