In the highlands, temperatures are cooler, with average highs of around 20°C (68°F) and lows of 11°C (52°F). Rainfall in Ethiopia is heaviest during the summer months when it typically receives around 500mm of rain each year. During this period, thunderstorms and tropical cyclones can bring intense rainfall for short periods of time.
